NWPA WORKSHOP: PORTRAIT MASTERCLASS

The booking facility will open at 6.30pm on Wednesday 23rd April 2025. At this time the booking form will become ‘live’ and will enable up to 12 people to book onto the workshop. Once 12 places have been filled, the booking facility will automatically close and will not accept any further bookings. The cost per person is £45 payable in advance at the time of booking, and no refunds are possible. However, if a delegate has booked a place and find that they cannot attend, they can sell their place to another NWPA member.

This workshop is a fundraising event, and all proceeds will go to the NWPA. All involved are offering their services for free. This includes the organisers (Sharon and Rob Prenton Jones), the models, and our webpage designer.

The workshop will begin with a “Mastering Portrait Lighting” demonstration of how to achieve soft, painterly lighting effects using studio lights and modifiers. Delegates will be divided into two groups of six photographers, giving them the opportunity to take photos of two character models dressed in Elizabethan costumes. Each model will have a costume and props change allowing each delegate the opportunity to shoot four different character portraits.

There will then be a presentation on “Post-Processing for Portraiture” with a live demonstration of how to process your images. Please note, this post processing presentation will use Adobe Photoshop 2025 and Adobe Camera Raw to demonstrate the post-processing techniques. Although similar effects can be obtained using other software packages, we will not be using any other software on the day. Following the workshop, delegates will be supplied with a detailed summary of all the techniques demonstrated on the day.

Skills Required

Delegates will need to be familiar with how to change shutter speed, aperture and ISO values without assistance.

  • Places can only be booked on the website using Stripe. Once the 12 places have been filled, no more places can be booked

  • It is possible that due to circumstances beyond our control, Prenton Jones Photography or NWPA may have to cancel any training at short notice. In this event you will be notified as soon as possible and you will be offered a full refund.
